This porch swing fell one day with two people sitting in it. One of the screw-in eyebolts which had been in the joist for at least 20 years simply gave up and wiggled free. This is how most porch swings are hung and it's only a matter of time before yours fails in this manner.

I had a better solution. I crawled up into the attic above the porch and used heavy duty construction screws to affix two short homemade beams made from sandwiched 2x6 in between the joists to add stability and give a nice bearing surface. I then drilled through the beam and ceiling and inserted forged eyebolts and finally rehung the swing. It's overbuilt, but nobody will worry that the swing will fall ever again.
